In 1998, Mr. Sanders joined SPECTRUM CORPORATE RESOURCES as Senior Associate specializing in  middle-market mergers and acquisitions nationwide. He was promoted to President/Manager in 2001 and purchased the company in 2003. He has been an active full-time business intermediary since 1985. He has personally handled over 130 business transfers and has appraised over 1,450 businesses. His focus has been on manufacturing, wholesale/distribution, and business to business service businesses. Prior to entering the business intermediary profession, Mr. Sanders was President and Chief Executive Officer of the PACIFIC ENGINEERS' Companies, an engineering firm whose operations had over 250 employees in four subsidiaries and covered seven states, primarily providing engineered facilities to local and federal governmental agencies.

Mr. Sanders spent fifteen years with Page Olson Commercial Brokerage in San Diego, California, as a Broker Associate. He developed the capability of providing Certified Business Valuations for business owners and other authorities needing to place a value on the intangible assets of a business without an anticipated sale. 

​

Mr. Sanders is also the author of the "BIZCOMPS®" studies, a leading authority on the market value of small and medium business in the United States and Canada. The studies contain actual transaction information on over 12,000 transactions and are marketed in both print and electronic form. He frequently gives presentations at professional seminars and conferences and is an instructor in educational courses leading to the Certified Business Intermediary designation.

Mr. Sanders is a member of the Association for Corporate Growth, the Institute of Business Appraisers, and the M&A Source. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the international Business Brokers Association. He has both Bachelors and Masters  degrees in Business Administration.

John L. Bates

Founder

 

Mr. Bates brings to his clients a unique combination of professional valuation, financial analysis skills, and, above all, actual transaction experience. He is qualified by virtue of his more than 15 years' experience as a mergers and acquisitions and business brokerage professional, where intimate knowledge of complex fair market value of factors is essential in negotiating successful transactions between knowleadgeable buyers and sellers of small to midsize businesses.

In addition to personally participating in more than 300 transactions, involving private and public companies, Mr. Bates has completed more than 500 valuation and analyst engagements, including fairness opinions, economic and business analysis, and litigation support. He has valued a broad range of businesses, including agriculture, distribution, food services, technology, manufacturing, and retailing. He has testified at trial, and has been qualified as an expert witness on matters involving fair market value, business valuation, and community property business assets, such as family businesses and professional and medical practices.

Bates background and related experience includes serving as Managing Director for RSM EquiCo Capital Markets, LLC., an international investment banking firm specializing in the valuation and sale of privately held middle-market companies; a Registered Financial Analyst with Morgan Stanley; and former President of Spectrum Corporate Resources, Inc. a business brokerage firm specializing in the sale of small to midsize companies.

Additional professional activities include past president of VR Business Brokers Southern California, and past vice president of the Business Brokers Association of Southern California.

​

Outside the profession, Mr. Bates has business experience as a national executive with an international public corporation, and he founded, successfully operated, and sold a private business service company. He has served as a Commissioner-Economic Development Commission for the City of Dana Point, Califonria, and in an Analyst capacity to various business and trade organizations.

He is a member of the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts (NACVA), and holds the following  Securities and Exchange (SEC) licenses: FINRA Series 24, General Securities Principal; Finra Series 7, General Securities Representative; FINRA Series 63 and 65, Registered Financial Advisor; FINRA Series 31, Managed Futures; and FINRA Series 79, Investment Banking Representative.

An Independent specialist Vice President of Spectrum Corporate Resources,LLC. since 2023. Maria Caudle has held a broker real estate license for nearly a decade. She is a Certified Mergers and Acquisitions Professional, Expert Certified Machinery & Equipment Appraiser, Certified Valuation Analyst, Member of M&A Source, NACVA - National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, and IEV- Institute of Equipment Valuation. A licensed business broker in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a vendor with "BIZCOMPS®" database. Maria Caudle is a seasoned professional with a wealth of experience and a robust network within the United States business landscape. A great deal of her career, is managing and senior support role performing the following range of activities in Main Street, transactions, Mergers & Acquisitions, Lower Mid-Market to Mid-Market, as well as Expert Witness in court cases and Business Valuations. Her extensive relationships span diverse sectors, including sports bars, restaurants, manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, entertainment, and construction. Ms. Caudle specializes in facilitating transactions involving strategic, corporate, and financial buyers, private equity firms, and high net worth individuals she brings a multifaceted perspective to her work. As a former member of the education committee at the International Business Brokers Association (IBBA), Ms. Caudle has a deep understanding of industry dynamics. Her valuation expertise ranges from low to mid-market businesses, reflecting a comprehensive understanding of market intricacies. Since 2006, she has served as the owner and broker of Eureka Biz Services, a business and consulting firm. Additionally, she operates Acme Business Valuations and maintains an independent practice. Maria Caudle holds a California real estate broker license, adding another dimension to her ability to navigate complex business transactions. Her holistic approach, coupled with a diverse skill set, positions her as a trusted advisor in the realm of mergers, acquisitions, and business consulting. For the past seventeen years has been involved in valuation closely held companies, estate, and gift tax, divorce, business management, machinery and equipment valuations. Ms. Caudle has been attending conferences for updates and keeping up with new trends on data analysis and computer science on most concepts in valuations for most businesses.

Lance Schmidt

Mr. Schimidt received his Bachelor's of Arts in Business, with an emphasis in Accounting, from California State University at Fullerton graduating with Honors in 1984. Upon graduation, American Stores employed him as an Internal Auditor. In 1987 he accepted a position as a Financial Auditor with the firm of Coopers & Lybrand International (Now Price, Waterhouse Coopers), located in Newport Beach, California where he became a CPA. In 1988 he left Coopers & Lybrand to join National Business Brokers, Inc. (founded by his father in 1978). He assisted his father with the management affairs of the Company and provided services as a Business Intermediary in the sales and marketing of businesses. From that time to the present, Mr. Schmidt has had the opportunity to negotiate the sale of over one hundred businesses and consult in hundreds more. Concurrently, he had the opportunity to appraise or value thousands of businesses including Automobile Dealerships, a specialty, in connection with National Business Brokers who have sold over 850 Dealerships, more than any other Company worldwide. Additionally, on a nationwide basis, he provides expert testimony and consultation for court and arbitration cases for judges and legal counsel and was a special consultant for the County of Orange in the State of California. Also, he teaches CABB 201 the advanced valuation course for the California Association of Business Brokers in Southern California.

Mr. Schmidt's hands on experience in accounting, management, auditing, business brokerage, M&A and valuations provides him with unique experience along with his credentials as a CVA-Certified Valuation Analyst with NACVA, a CBI-Certified Business Intermediary with the IBBA, a Member of CABB and former Treasures and Board Member, as well as being a former CPA, have allowed him to provide a Certified Business Valuations and Expert Witness Testimony for National Business Appraisers Inc. as its President. National Business Appraisers, Inc. was founded in 1983 by Mr. Schmidt's Father, Kent Schmidt. Mr. Schmidt also serves as Senior Vice President of the Appraisal Division of National Business Brokers, Inc. founded in 1978 by Kent Schmidt. He continues to provide Intermediary Services for National Business Brokerage, Inc. He is also a Member of NACVA, the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts, a Member of CABB, the California Association of Business Brokers and a Member of the International Business Brokers Association all in good standing.

Ann Harned   Technology Manager, Spectrum Corporate Resources, LLC.

​

Ms. Harned has been a part of the Spectrum team since 1997. As our Technology Manager, she manages the Spectrum presence on all websites for our engagements, conducts company research and prepares our Confidential Business Review packages which are provided to qualified buyers. She also handles database research for our clients and buyers and does other special project as needed. Ms. Harned's recent experience includes over 15 years of technology, administrative, marketing, and advertising responsibilities. Previously, she was co-owner for 7 years of a 6-unit small business chain, actively involved in the concept, design and business management.
